What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a cosmetic skin resurfacing procedure and a form of manual exfoliation. It is similar to the Microdermabrasion treatment but without the use of suction or abrasive crystals.
In this procedure the Stratum Corneum of the Epidermis is completely removed using an Aesthetic grade, sterile blade stroked along the skin at a 3 – degree angle. This method gently “shaves off” dead skin cells with short strokes and also temporarily removes the fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) of the face. The effect is glowing skin with fewer imperfections and a bright and silky smooth, even complexion.
As with any type of exfoliation, the removal of dead skin cells allows home care products to be more effective, also helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines, even skin tone and assists in reducing milia, closed comedones and minor breakouts associated with congested pores.
Dermaplaning can be an effective exfoliation method for those that have couperose (tiny blood vessels near the surface of the skin) or sensitive skin that prevent the use of Microdermabrasion or Chemical Peels.
It also benefits those with congested and dull complexions, course skin, enlarged pores, superficial acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, aging skin and for people who love to have a glowing, even and hair-free complexion to create the best makeup canvas.
Due to the contours of the face, certain areas of the face such as the eyelids and nose, are not treatable using this method.
